The main school building, which was built in 1938, is housed around two quadrangles on either side of a central hall. In 1991/92 the main building was re-roofed and refurbished. A new 5-classroom extension was completed in May 1999. Construction of a new nursery, dining room and an additional Foundation (2) classroom was completed during August 2002. A staff car park was also created which is accessed from Westnall Road.
There are four large outdoor playgrounds.
In one of the quadrangles there is a tool shed, a pond and a vegetable garden. This provides a safe environment where children can develop scientific and investi-gative skills. The infant quadrangle was re-modelled during the summer of 2002 to create an all–weather outdoor classroom for Foundation (2) pupils.
The main hall is used for assemblies and PE lessons. We have a learning centre including an ICT suite and library. All Key Stage 1 and 2 classrooms are equipped with a computer projector, many with an interactive whiteboard. We have a newly refurbished Inclusion base to support pupils with learning or behavioural difficulties.
In addition to the teaching areas and the halls, we have the following accommodation:
- An information and communication technology room
- Inclusion centre
- A library
Within the perimeter fence are extensive green areas and there is a level field suitable for outdoor games and athletics. There are also hard play areas. The school campus covers a total area of six acres.
School Security
Recent events have shown that even Primary Schools have security problems. Beck Primary School is a large school with many entrances. In the interests of safety and security, all visitors including parents should report at the main office before entering the school. Official visitor badges are issued so that any unaccompanied stranger may be challenged. Normally, gates around school will be kept closed and some are locked at appropriate times. Please close all gates behind you. Entry during the school day is via the central electronically monitored gates.
Once the children are in class, all external doors are locked including the doors to the mobile classrooms. Entry is via an electronic fob.
All outside teaching areas have a radio link to the school office and teachers can instantly summon help in case of emergency.
There is a CCTV system in operation in and around the school premises.
