You can find out more information about what children learn in Year 2, click on the menus below.

The children also love to read in Year Two, and follow the Read Write Inc Scheme. You can find out more information about this on the Phonics and Early Reading page on our website.

Autumn Term: Where will the sea take us?

During the first term the children’s learning will focus on geography as they learn about the similarities and differences between different parts of the world that we live in. They will visit the coastal town of Bridlington to enable them to compare the human and physical features of the coastal town to Shiregreen. The children will also design and build their own boats and launch these to see how successful they are!

Spring Term: What makes an ideal home?

During their second term in Year 2, the children will learn about how plants and animals are suited to certain habitats. They will also begin to learn about food chains and how animals, including humans, change as they grow older, as well as visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They will then use this knowledge to make their own animals out of Modroc!

They will design and make their own moon buggy, and use their knowledge of the inspirational people they have researched to write a biography about them.
