Autumn Term: Are humans good for the planet?Title

During the autumn term, the children’s learning will focus on geography as they learn about the impact humans have on the world. They will be focusing on the urbanization of areas, such as Sao Paulo in Brazil and the impact this has on areas such as the Amazon rainforest. Alongside this, the children will be looking at Street Art which conveys a message in society, comparing Brazilian and Sheffield Street Artists, before creating their own street art around the school grounds.

Spring Term: How did it all start?

During their second term in Year 6, the children will learn about evolution to gain an understanding of how things change over time. As well as looking at the work of Charles Darwin in history, the children will learn about fossilisation and evolution in science. They will also create detailed drawings of fossils, studying the work of John Ruskin. All of this hard work will contribute to the children opening their very own Museum, inspired by their visit to Weston Park Museum in Sheffield.

Summer Term: Who decides?

In the final part of the year, the children will continue their studies from Year 5, learning more about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, as well as learning about the Tudors and Victorians! They will then learn about crime and punishment throughout British History and produce and perform a play around this theme. Alongside this, the children will go on a residential visit to Thornbridge Outdoors where they will develop their teamwork and independence skills in preparation for Secondary school.
